Fernando De Noronha: The Ultimate Travel Guide
If you are looking for a remote, raw, luxurious, gorgeous spot to relax, get off the grid or simply enjoy nature in its purest form, Fernando De Noronha will probably be your most suitable option. Nested in Brazil’s beautiful Pernambuco region, the island is amongst the hottest hideouts there are right about now. One thing is clear though: if your wish is to be amongst the lucky ones who will experience it, you might just start organizing your trip now because the demand is simply exploding. Here is our very own exclusive travel guide to help you get everything ready.
“POUSADAS”︱ Where to stay
Budget (double room — incl. breakfast): Starting from $550 per night
When it comes to luxury lodging in Fernando de Noronha, Pousada Maravilha clearly stands out as one of the island’s top options. The venture is the result of one of Luciano Huck’s numerous successful investments. Several stunning minimal-style beach houses with their own private jacuzzis, one gorgeous infinity pool facing Morro Dois Irmãos — one of the island’s must-see landscapes — quality SPA services and a refined restaurant all merged to provide the hosts with the most exquisite high-end experience.
Pousada Do Zé Maria
Budget (double room — incl. breakfast): Starting from $270 per night
Comfort and refinement while keeping it simple. This is the concept of Pousada Zé Maria, one of Noronha’s most famous and traditional hotels. The host is none other than the charismatic Zé Maria, who is known to throw the most memorable New Year celebrations, which have been attracting the country’s hottest celebrities for the past years. The on-site infrastructure features well-appointed rooms, while avoiding all kinds of conspicuous elements and the rustic decor gives the scenery this “je ne sais quoi” that will enchant even the most cynical ones.
Pousada Teju Açu
Budget (double room — incl. breakfast): On quote
The Pousada Teju Açu is located next to Conceição Beach — one of the island’s most prized beaches — and offers the most rustic luxurious scenery. Its rooms are carefully furnished to offer visitors a comfortable experience amidst a heavenly setting. If what you are looking for is not to worry about any detail, while enjoying a bespoke experience, this place was probably designed just for you.
“ATIVIDADES”︱ What to do
EXPLORE: Discover everything the island has to offer in the blink of an eye
Initially colonized by the Dutch in 1503, then by the French and finally the Portuguese and until 20 years ago home to criminals and gypsies, the island has a history of adventurous explorations. Seven kilometres of surfaced road a 30% land development limitation make it one of the most preserved locations you will get to see. This is why, an island full tour might be worth your while. If not to explore the whole land, simply to be able to choose the parts you wish to discover. The tour lasts all day and takes place in practically all of the island’s main points (Praia do Leão, Sancho, Tubarão Museum, Praia da Caieira, Chapel of St. Peter, Port of Santo Antônio, Cacimba do Padre Beach, Bay of Pigs and Fort Pedro de Boldró to enjoy the sunset). While the itinerary changes every day, any way is fine as long as you get to grasp the island’s treasures in the blink of an eye.
MARVEL: Dolphin-watching at Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay), otherwise known as Baía dos Porcos (Bay of Pigs)
This is probably where the island’s most majestic show happens. Baía dos Porcos, now known as Baía dos Golfinhos is where you can watch nature operating its magic. Indeed, every morning, hundreds of dolphins get close to the shore and joyfully play and jump around. However, such a treasured show imposes certain ground rules, which will ensure its preservation. This is why any diving, snorkeling or swimming is strictly prohibited by the local authorities. The bay can thus only be accessed by boat with special authorization from IBAMA for research purposes. The observation is therefore accessible either from the bay’s cliffs or through a boat trip which passes in the surroundings of the Bay and enables watchers to get a closer glimpse at the “golfinhos” (dolphins).
Praia do Sancho
RELAX: Snorkel, dive and swim in the most gorgeous tropical beach you will get to see
One cannot make a Noronha to-do-list without including Praia do Sancho. The later is the island’s most renowned beach. It is very probably worth your while. It was, after all, voted “Best Beach in the World” by Brazilians. Its waters are crystal clear and its sand snow white. Its tricky access and lack of facilities make it a dream come true for any real tropical enthousiast.
“RESTAURANTES”︱ Where to eat & drink
Lunch with a view — Porto Beach
Considered one of the island’s top lunch spots, the Mergulhão offers a cozy atmosphere with a stunning view.
Xica da Silva
Candle light dinner — Floresta Nova
Warm welcoming lights, comfortable chairs and tables and a nice diversified menu with delicious daily fish catches will delight your taste buds.
